About ABB

ABB is a global technology leader in electrification and automation. They see their purpose as being to enable a more sustainable and resource-efficient future. By connecting their engineering and digitalization expertise, they help industries run at high performance, while becoming more efficient, productive and sustainable so they outperform. They call this: ‘Engineered to Outrun.’ ABB has around 110,000 employees worldwide and a history that stretches back more than 140 years.

Solar One was contracted to design and install a high-efficiency solar energy system at their Florence manufacturing facility in South Carolina. This project reflects ABB’s ongoing commitment to sustainability, energy efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

Benefits of Solar for ABB

With 23 acres of open land at the ABB Florence manufacturing facility, Solar One engineered and installed a large-scale solar energy system totaling 869 kW. This custom-designed installation is projected to generate approximately 1,820,838 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity annually — significantly reducing energy costs and offsetting the facility’s carbon footprint.

Playing The Long Game

Shawn Shockey,, Manager of Manufacturing for ABB Electrification, said: “You need to play the long game when it comes to investing in renewables. There is a plethora of fast-moving new technology in this space so it pays off to do your research, get good advice and make sure you select the correct long-term solution the first time.”

Together, ABB and Solar One demonstrate how manufacturing and sustainability can go hand in hand.
